You’ve seen this set in basically every Esoterica video filmed: Thorndike’s legendary 8-volume A History of Magic and Experimental Science. One of the most foundational and important studies of magic and western esotericism. Unfolding over 8 volumes, Thorndike explores western magic, alchemy and astrology like none before and, honestly, none sense. His study remains an invaluable resource for studying the occult and is necessary reading for any serious scholar of the hermetic sciences. I’ve used these volumes for many, many Esoterica episodes and you can see it there just to the left on the set. So, a truly important resource for the study of magic, alchemy and astrology along with a fun piece of Esoterica history as well. Also happy to inscribe these!
8-volume set. Exlibrary, usual marks; most volumes rebound in green cloth library bindings with titles in gilt or in white on spine; Vols. VII and VIII in original dark green cloth with Columbia seal impressed on front and gilt titles on spine; bindings of all volumes very sturdy; covers lightly worn, rubbed at edges; Volumes I and II published by Macmillan in 1929, Second Printing with Corrections; these two vols. have a few pages with edge tears; soil to top edge of textblock; Volumes III and IV published by Columbia University Press in 1934; Vol. III has a small nick to lower edge of front cover and first few pps.; Volumes V and VI published by Columbia in 1941; Volumes VII and VIII in original covers, published by Columbia in 1958; Vol. VII rear hinge cracked; general index in Vol. VIII; all volumes in very good condition internally; only a handful of internal markings in pencil spotted.
