1838 – Fragments of Martin de Porres’s Bones and Juan Macías’s Undershirt

$495.00

This signed relic certificate was issued in Rome on 31 August 1838, ten months after Martin de Porres and Juan Macías were beatified together. Both belonged to the Dominican communities of Lima. Martin had served as a lay brother; Macías kept a priory gate and fed the poor who gathered there.

The issuer, Tommaso Giacinto Cipolletti, had recently finished his term as head of the Dominican order. As postulator, he was the official promoting both men’s causes for sainthood. His certificate records a fragment of Macías’s undershirt and fragments of Martin’s bones placed together in an oval relic case of silvered brass, closed under crystal and tied with red silk.

The certificate was completed by hand within a broad ornamental border, and its red seal survives at the lower left. A printed card supplies the Latin text and an English translation. The certificate is offered as a historical document; no relic is included, and it does not authenticate any relic with which it may later be paired.
