1730 - Foundational Work of Theosophy - Böhme's Aurora

$1,100.00
sold out

Jakob Böhme (1575-1624) was a German Christian mystic, theologian, and philosopher. Born into a peasant family, he received little formal education but underwent profound mystical experiences that inspired his writings. Böhme's works explore the nature of God, creation, and humanity, combining Lutheran theology with elements of Neoplatonism and alchemy.

His first book, "Aurora," included in this volume, caused controversy due to its unorthodox ideas, but it also gained him a devoted following. Böhme's influence extended beyond his lifetime, impacting movements like German Romanticism and influencing thinkers such as Hegel, who once described Böhme as “the first German philosopher,” and Schelling. One of Böhme’s key ideas is the Ungrund, the "unfounded" or "groundless" nature of God, beyond human comprehension. This book is well described as the first book of theosophy.

1730. Jakob Böhme. Theosophia Revelata. Das ist: Alle Göttliche Schriften des Gottseligen und Hocherleuchteten Deutschen Theosophi Jacob Böhmens… [Leiden?]. 493 numbered pages. (Note: This is the first volume only of a multi-volume set.) Beautiful full leather binding, impeccably preserved. Some browning and spotting throughout. Gilt edges and tooling on the spine. This particular copy does not contain the woodcuts typically found in this edition. Excellent condition, with minimal wear and tear considering its age. The binding is tight, the pages are clean, and there are no markings or marginalia.
